Although the spire has gone it can be seen from these images that the roof is intact . The usual west end view showing the collapsed steeple and the severely damaged front facade gives a misleading picture of the extent of the damage. When seen from all sides it is easy to understand why some engineers believe that the Cathedral can be saved and that demolition almost to the ground is unnecessary.
