This revealing report on damage t o concert hall s in Japan resulting from the 2011 show how well the Town Hall stood up in comparison. Major ceiling collapse occurred in 151 buildings, under similar or lesser shaking conditions to what was experienced in Christchurch
Geotech summary
It is worth viewing the geotech summary produced by Cera in the light of Mr Brownlee's comments about the dreadful geotech conditions of the Town Hall. Looking closely at the report it is difficult to detect that the conditions are any worse than the proposed Arts Precinct site facing Victoria Square. In fact some aspects such as ground cracking seem worse in the Arts Precinct area.
